Memorial Paintings
Oftentimes I am asked to photograph a terminally ill pet; people want a special photo that captures their best friend's personality before they are forced to let go of them. After the loss of our own buddy, Norman, I wanted to create a memorial painting that would show his amazing spirit. So I based it on one of his best photos and incorporated his old purple collar so that I could see it hanging on his strong, dependable neck once again. It has a prominent place in our home and we've enjoyed it as a lasting tribute to a much-loved friend. Lots of folks have since commissioned similar memorials for their dogs -- so many that I decided to offer the
paintings as another service. These monochromatic, textured paintings can be based on any photo of your pet, whether taken by Doghouse or by you. I hope yours brings you as many happy memories as ours.
As you can imagine, these paintings require a bit of participation from you:
1. First, you supply the photo(s) that the painting is based on. It can be a full body shot or just head and shoulders, it’s up to you. If you don’t have a single photo you like I can often make compilations based on several photos.
2. You’ll also need to send me your dog’s collar and tags or some other personal memento like a favorite toy, a bandana, whatever you most associate with your buddy. Please know that I understand how very much your dog means to you whether they are still with you or not. I will treat their treasured mementos with the greatest respect. Unless you say otherwise, the collar or object will be painted the same color as the dog. PLEASE let me know if you don’t want the collar painted.
3. Finally, I will need a swatch of the color you want the painting to be. The swatch can be anything: magazine page, photo, scrap of fabric, paint sample, etc.
The painting will be rendered approximately life size so that the collar or memento will fit. For this reason, there are a variety of prices based on the size of the canvas. You may, however, choose to do just the dog’s head and shoulders, in which case a smaller canvas could be used for a large dog.
| Toy Dog: 16x20 canvas = $300 | ||
| Medium Dog: 24x30 or 24x36 canvas = $400 | ||
| Giant Dog: 36x48 canvas = $500 |
